The Lightning

Express at the depot so grand

Had just started out on it's way

Most of the passengers 'were on that train seemed to be happy and gay

Except a little boy in a seat by himself

Reading a letter he had

It was plain to be seen by the tears in his eyes that the contents of it made him sad

A stern Conductor about to seek

A ticket from everyone there

Approching beside of the little boy

He gruffly demanded his fare

I haven't no money was the boys reply

But I'll pay you back someday

I'll have to put you off at the station he said

But he stopped when he heard the boy say

Please mister conductor

Don't put me off of your train

The best friend

I have is this whole wide world

Is waiting for me in pain

Expected to die any moment now

She may not live through the day

I want to kiss mother goodbye sir

Before God takes her away

A little girl seated in a seat close by

Said to put that boy off is a shame

Taking his hat a collection she made and soon paid his way on the train

Obliged to you miss for your kindness to me

I sure never fear

Yet each time the

Conductor came through that train

These word seemed to ring in his ears
