Chasing the ball across an open field

Feeling as though there’s wings on my heels

And I land, with the ball in the palm of my hand

Wasting away while others run and play

I wanna break out but I can’t find the way

I always win when I’m playing alone

5k race down to my studio

I pick up the pace, but there’s nowhere to go

I sit down, look around at my unread books

Out on the courts I know my friends are there

It’s painful to lose so I don’t even dare to be seen

I crumple up the crossword in the magazine

But there’s a place in my mind
