He was born and raised on the river

It's the only life that he know

People around here have put a name on him

And he hear it wherever he go

Good for nothing river boy

This old world don't hold a whole lot of joy

He does a lot of fishing on the river

He makes to the living night way

When he take his catch to the market place

You can hear all the people say

He buy his ware but nobody cares

About the feelings of the river boy

There's a pretty girl works at the market place

See her there everyday

But when he try to talk to her

You can hear her papa say

Come away from that river boy that river boy

Good friend Nothing riff raff river boys

No girl of mine is gonna spend her time

With a good for nothing river boy

He head his boat back up the river

Back to his old fishing place

I'm afraid this ol river's will overflow

From the tears a falling down his face
