在梵文中,Karunesh的意思是“怜悯”。1956年生于德国科隆的他虽然在十几岁时就已加入乐队,但却一直打算以绘画为业。然而一次严重的摩托车以外改变了他的一生。两个星期在生与死之间的徘徊,点燃了他精神之旅的火花。1979年他跟随心灵的召唤，开始了他的印度之行。1984年,他以Sound of the Heart(心灵之声)为题,发行了首张个人专辑,立即成为New Age经典,并迅速售出了45万张。其被命名为World beat或world fusion的乐风成了众相模仿的对象。92年他移居夏威夷毛伊岛后,音乐除原有的宗教色彩外,更添上了热带那分柔美和温暖气息。经过数年的酝酿,2001年专辑Zen reakfast（道禅）再创辉煌,成了着名New Age厂牌Real Music唱片公司迈进新世纪的一张唱片。
