“시간을 돌린다고…?“
액체 안에 가루를 녹이려 컵을 휘젓던 티스푼을 서서히 반대방향으로 돌린다.

“과거로 간다고? 시간여행을 말하는거야?”
말을 얼버무린게 아니라 질문이었다는 것을 확인 시키려는듯 재차 말꼬리를 올린다.

”그럴수도 있고.”

”알아듣기 쉽게 설명해봐.”

“이해하려고 하지마.“

“최근에 영화 같은거 본적 있어? SF? 판타지?”

재차 말꼬리를 올려 질문이라는 것을 강조하다 질문의 답을 찾았다는 듯이 말을 얼버무린다.
“그럼 다르게 했을까…?“

“시간을 붙잡을 수 있다고 생각해?”
그건 날아가는 총알을 잡는것 만큼이나 불가능한 말처럼 들린다.

유리창 반대편에 존재가 대답 한다. 아니 내 입이 그렇게 움직였다. 거울인가. 분명 거울은 아니다. 옷차림도 다르고 헤어스타일도 다르다.

“바꾸고 싶은 과거가 있지 않아?”

있지. 분명 그렇게 대답한줄 알았다.
“없어.”

그때로 돌아간대도 결국에 나는 나야.

과거의 나, 지금의 나, 미래의 나.

어디에 가장 내가 원하는 내가 있을까.

이루고 싶은 미래가 과거에도 있었나.

미래가 이미 지나간 과거마저 바꿀 수 있다면 그저 나아가는 것만이 답인가.


“Turning back time…?”
The teaspoon, stirring to dissolve powder in water, slowly begins to spin in the opposite direction.

“You mean going to the past? Are you talking about time travel?”
The question is repeated, not to fill silence, but to make clear it was a question—not a mumbled thought.

“Maybe. You could say that.”

“Then explain it. In a way I can understand.”

“Don’t try to understand.”

“Have you watched any movies lately? Sci-fi? Fantasy?”

The intonation rises again, signaling another question—though the words trail off as if an answer has already been found.
“If you could, would you have done things differently…?”

“Do you think you can hold on to time?”
The thought sounds as absurd as trying to catch a bullet mid-flight.

A voice answers from the other side of the glass. Or maybe—it’s my own lips moving. A mirror? No. It’s not a mirror. The clothes are different. The hair’s different.

“Is there a past you wish you could change?”
There is. I thought I said that.
“No,”

Even if I went back, I’d still be me.

The past me, the present me, the future me—

Where does the version of me I want most truly exist?

Did the future I long for ever exist in my past?

And if the future could somehow rewrite even what’s already gone, is moving forward all we have left.

A.I. Chapter 6

“야, 너 돈은 어떻게 벌려고 그래?”

친구가 물었다.

“걱정 마, 새끼야. 그런건 문제가 아니야.”

소년이 친구의 말을 거의 자르듯 내뱉었다.

“아니, 문제다 아니다 이게 중요한게 아니라 무엇보다도 나도 지금 그걸 해결 하려는 거라니까? 그니까 내 말은 내 머릿속에 은행이 하나가 통째로 들어가 있다고. 난 그저…”

소년은 쉼표없이 내달리다 불현듯 멈추고는 옅은 미소로 친구를 바라보았다.
친구는 이해가 가지 않는 듯 한쪽 눈을 가늘게 찌푸렸다.
다음 말이 뭐든 당장이라도 비웃어주겠다는 듯 차갑게 소년을 쏘아보고 있었다.
불청객처럼 찾아온 고요속에 소년의 눈은 조금도 흔들리지 않았다.
그가 말을 멈춘 이유는 망설임도, 의심도 아니었다.
분명 그 눈빛 너머에는 어떤 힘 같은 것이 있었다.
새의 날갯짓을 따라가며 방아쇠 위에 손가락을 얹은 사냥꾼처럼
소년은 그저 다음 말을 쏘아낼 완벽한 순간을 찾고 있을 뿐이었다.

“난 그저 하나의 노래만 있으면 돼. 단 하나의 노래.”


"Hey, how are you gonna make money?”

his friend asked.

"Don’t worry, man. That’s not even the issue.”

The boy fired back, almost cutting his friend off.

"I mean, it’s not about whether it’s a problem or not. What matters is—I’m trying to solve it too, okay? What I’m saying is, I’ve got a whole damn bank in my head. I just..."

He rushed the words out in one breath, then paused.
A faint smile appeared on his face as he turned to look at his friend.
His friend squinted one eye, confused.
He gave a cold stare that said: Whatever comes out of your mouth next better make sense.
But the boy's eyes didn’t flinch.
It wasn’t hesitation or doubt that held back what he was about to say.
There was something powerful beyond his eyes.
Like a hunter tracking the wingbeat of a distant bird,
finger resting gently on the trigger,
he waited in the silence,
timing the next line as if it were a bullet.

"I just need one song, one song only."
