Crafted in four recording locations, with 17 American and Jordanian artists over two time zones and 6000 miles, Hana Malhas’ debut release Shapeshift is an introspective collection of songs that reinforces her cross-cultural collaboration, while staying true to her firm rooting in the indie folk‐pop sound. With influences such as Feist, Ray LaMontagne, and Laura Marling, her songs showcase an expressive vocal delivery that fluctuates between soft intensity and bold clarity. You may find yourself connecting to that voice, through words you’ve left unspoken – as a lover, an ex, a daughter, an outcast, or a witness. Hana explores the personal with fearless vulnerability, making observations about our multi‐layered human experience across cultures. She composes on piano and guitar, and invited a diverse range of musicians to layer the album songs with strong arrangements of instrumentation and harmony. The result is organic musical diversity from song to song, with threads of stylistic consistency tying them together. She grew up in Jordan, a place with breathtaking desert mountains and rich sounds of an old language, and is currently based in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
