Horses and women

All my life I've tried to win with

Horses and women

They sure keep me in a spin

My poor head is swimmin'

Tryin' to solve the mystery of

Horses and women

They'll be the death of me

Now horses all wear harnesses

But women wear them too

A woman's harness rarely shows to

Any man who's lucky with them

They're a dream come true

But you must have sugar to get close to

Those tantalizing women and horses

Though their eyes are soft and warm

They love double crosses

You can't judge them by their form

They'll melt your resistance

Then when you have spent your all

They won't go the distance

You're riding for a fall

You train them and clock them

Even pay their stable fees

You groom them and walk them

Let them live a life of ease

You pet them stroke them

Shove the carrots in their face

When some other joe comes

And takes their maiden grace

I asked an old philosopher

Who really knows the score

He said my boy they are the most high

You must however say don't place your bets too early for

The odds keep on changing up to post time

That's how it goes with horses and women

They'll both take you for a ride

They'll give you a trimmin'

Then go struttin' high and wide

I've tried every system to get in that winner's circle

Cussed them and kissed them

But nothing seems to work

If I was wise I'd just forget them both and take it easy

Stick to golf and poker or backgammon or parchesi

But I know while I've a long shot left I'll stay

With horses and women all the way
