A second chance

 

This is my second chance to speak from Dis po Di um the first was twenty three years ago when I was graduating senior my classmates selected me to address them as the first Wellesley student ever to speak at a commitment I cant claim that nineteen sixty nine speech as my own it reflect de hopes values and asp or Asian the women in my graduating class we passion a Li rejected an ocean of limitations on our abilities to make the world a better place

 

We saw a gap between our expectations and reality these and we were inspired in large part by or Wellesley education To Bridge that gap Wellesley nature that challenged and guided me and still than me not just knowledge but a reserve of sustainable value

 

Dreams and Dis solution moments

 

When I arrived as a freshman in nineteen sixty five for my eyes and harriet suburban Chicago both the college and the country were going to a period of rapid sometimes to march with changes

 

We grew up in a decade dominated by dreams and Dis solution moments dreams of the civil rights movement of the peace corps of the space program Dis solution month starting with President Kennedy the sas a nation accelerate ID bae de device of war in Vietnam and deadly mixture poverty racism in despair that burst into flames in the hearts of some cities and which is still burning today

 

Much has changed and much of it for the better but much is also stayed a same each new generation takes us into new territory but while change a certain progress is not change is the law of nature progress is the challenge for both a life and society describing an integrated life is easier than achieve ing one yet but better place to speak on integrated a strength of womens lives than Wellesley college that not only when a cate the proposition that there is still in a central place for an all womens college but which de fines its mission as seeking to educated women who will make a difference in the world
