Fantasiaquintet

The Fantasia Quintet is a chamber music group consisting of five professional musicians. They started working together in 2003 and perform regularly both in Finland and abroad. Over the years the quintet has been tutored by Maurice Bourgue, Harri Mäki, Ralf Gothoni, Joy Farrall, Ilpo Mansnerus, Markus Maskuniitty and Esa Tapani. In 2004 The Fantasia Quintet won the 1st prize for wind instrument ensembles in the Erkki Melartin Chamber Music Competition in Savonlinna, Finland. In the summer 2006 The Fantasia Quintet won the award for the best concert performance of Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival master classes in Finland and later that year placed among the best eight chamber music ensembles in the ARD International Music Competition in Munich, Germany. In the spring 2008 The Fantasia Quintet participated in the Lyon International Chamber Music Competition in France, and was awarded the 3rd prize, the Press Award and shared the prize for the best performance of a work by Thierry Escaich with another competing wind quintet. Next year 2009 The Fantasia Quintet won the 1st prize in the Henri Tomasi International Woodwind Competition in Marseille, France. In October 2009 The Fantasia Quintet gave a series of concerts in Germany in collaboration with the German-Finnish Association DFG. The quintet has also collaborated with professor Maurice Bourgue in the program organized by ProQuartet (The European Center for Chamber Music). In 2010 The Fantasia Quintet earned their chamber music diploma at Sibelius Academy with honours. In spring 2013 will be released quintet's first recording with music by György Ligeti, Paul Hindemith, Thierry Escaich and Sandor Veres. The Fantasia Quintet wishes to thank the Finnish Cultural Foundation, the Sibelius Academy Foundation, the Pro Musica Foundation and the Martin Wegelius Foundation for support.
