Gerald Levert

In a genre often overwhelmed with flash and flamboyance, Gerald Levert is a low-key love man. The son of O'Jays belter Eddie Levert, Gerald has served up a string of hits since the mid-'80s, either with the trio LeVert ("Casanova"), the '90s supergroup LSG ("My Body"), or as a solo artist. Yet despite his sustained success, he remains underappreciated, which is a shame because what the gruff-voiced singer lacks in Q-ratings he makes up for with his rugged delivery of romantic songs. His first CD since 1999's G is another collection of tough but tender R&B--grown-up in focus but laced with just enough edgy attitude. The down-home, late-night "Soul Mate" and the unabashedly sentimental ballad "Made to Love Ya" find Gerald testifying passionately about love and life's ups and downs. Without breaking a sweat, he gives better-known superstars something to aim for.

Gerald Levert starts his new album where the last one left off. While many may remember "Love And Consequences" for "Thinkin' About It", "Taking Everything", and "That's The Way I Feel About You" w/ Mary J. Blige, the "G" man proves that he has his new style down to a science. The best and most powerful track on the album is definitely "It Hurts Too Much To Stay" w/ Kelly Price. This song takes slow jams to another level and has you anticipating for the next album from Kelly Price, which comes out some time this year. There are other stand out tracks on the album: "Strings, Strings", "She Done Been", "Misery", and "Callin'Me" are just a few of them. This is one CD that you can play all the way through, so the fast forward button will not be necessary. For anyone that liked the "LSG" CD or Gerald Levert's last CD "Love And Consequences", "G" will be an added gem to your collection.

Love & Consequences

I couldn´t believe it when I heard this morning that Gerald had died at only 40 years old. Unbelievable. He was such an amazing talent - a powerful and silky smooth baritone voice that was gorgeous to listen to. 
This is one of my favourite cd´s of his. It has one of the most beautiful songs I´ve ever heard on it - I´d Give Anything. That is a fantastic song that I still love after all of these years. I also really love Same Place, Same Time and Have Mercy. It´s one of his best cd´s and certainly one of my favourites (apart from G.). His voice was so full of emotion and it stands out here really well. It´s a stunning love cd and it is full of bedroom music. I really recommend this to all R&B fans and fans of his in general. To know that we won´t hear any more new music is the biggest shame. At least we can hear this over and over to hear his voice whenever we want. Go get a copy of this - it´s worth every penny.

"Baby Hold On To Me", Levert's duet with his famous father Eddie Levert, is priceless. Premier artist of the decade.
