Tha Block Is Hot is the debut studio album by American rapper Lil Wayne, It was released on November 2, 1999 by Cash Money Records and Universal Music Group. The lead single is "Tha Block Is Hot", the single has been placed at (#50) on VH1's 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs of All Time. The second single is "Respect Us", produced by Mannie Fresh and featuring Juvenile. The music video for this single was also features Birdman and Mannie Fresh. The song was not as successful single as the album's title track for a single, as it failed to chart. The video, like many Cash Money videos of the time, was shot on location in New Orleans' 9th Ward. Since the release of his debut album it has sold over 230,000 copies in it's first week, The album was certified double platinum and has sold over one million copies in the United States and two million copies worldwide by the RIAA. It made a strong presence on the Billboard Albums charts, as it was a #1 R&B Album and #3 Pop Album at its peak.
