That young outlaw did

Way out in the west a long time ago

When a man's truest friend

Was his own forty four

When Billy the Kid was a very young lad

In old Silver City

He went to the bad

With a curse on his lips

And a knife in his hand

At the age of fourteen years

He killed his first man

Was on the same night

That our young Billy died

He said to himself

"I'm not quite satisfied

It's twenty one men

And sheriff Pat Garrett's

Will make twenty-two"

He sheriff he walked through

The bushes so sly

He waited til billy was a walking close by

He shot Billy down though

He once was his friend

And that's how young billy's life came to an end

He was bold he was game
