For our first pregnancy announcement, I wanted to do something more than just post a picture of an ultrasound on social media. So I decided to write a song to sing with my partner for the reveal!

This potty song was created for the purpose of potty learning or elimination communication for our daughter when she was a wee one-month old! We plan to share it with the elimination communication community so that other parents may use the Potty Song to cue their babies or children to eliminate!

Amanda Ong crafted the first draft of this song while going through her first IVF cycle, channeling the anxiety of the uncertain journey. The initial four verses capture the ups and downs of the IVF process, while the bridge reflects on the unexpected emotions of discovering pregnancy and embarking on a new chapter. After experiencing a pregnancy loss, Amanda revised the song, adding two more verses to express the heart-wrenching emotions of facing an unviable pregnancy. These additions transformed the song into its final version, infusing it with raw honesty and depth.

Imagine if men didn’t assume that women didn’t know things; and didn’t mansplain things to them. What a different world it would be. This song stems from Sreshya telling Amanda about a guy she met overseas who assumed that there were no cinemas in Singapore, and proceeded to mansplain what a cinema is to her.
