The Speaks

This Veterans Day, independent rock band “The Speaks” will be digitally releasing a new single called “The Price of Freedom”, and are planning to donate 50%of the proceeds to several military charities including The Wounded Warrior Project.  The song, which is uniquely written from the perspective of a fallen soldier, is the band’s first new single since their 2007 EP release called “This is the Time”.  

With the 10 year anniversary of the attacks on September 11th approaching, the band came back together last year and wrote the new single called “The Price of Freedom”.  Written through the eyes of those who have served, or currently serve in the United States Armed Forces,  “The Price of Freedom” takes the point of view of a soldier who has given the ultimate sacrifice for his country- his or her life.  The song is a reminder that their selflessness, their sacrifices, and their dedication to this nation and it’s people, is what helps make our country great and that freedom isn’t free.

	In January 2005, The Speaks signed a distribution/production/publishing deal with Warner Music Group - Philippines.  The release date of the localized cd,“Life’s A Joke” was on April 2005, and their first hit single “Life’s A Joke” has been on the top 30 countdown for over 5 months! The music video has also been aired on MTV Asia and MYX. The second single release and music video for “High” will has hit #1 for at least 7 weeks straight on the number Philippine station  97.1 LS FM and several other stations throughout the country.

* 1st Place -- 2004 DC101 “Last Band Standing” Competition!
	Competed against hundreds of the top rock bands in the DC/Baltimore area and prevailed as the #1 Band in the area to perform with national acts such Chevelle, Switchfoot, the Donnas, Jimmy Eat World, Cake and Thousand Foot Krutch at the DC 101 25th Annual Chili Cook-Off for over 30,000+ people. Judges included A&Rs from RCA and Universal Records, music industry reps and local celebrities. 

* 1st Place -- 2003 JAXX “World’s Largest Battle of the Bands!”
	Competed against hundreds of other bands from WV to PA -- over the course of 6 months -- to win one of the largest - (60% judging/40% fan vote) true live music competitions on the east coast.  Their rabid fan-base resulted in record-breaking crowds for both the Semi-Final and Final rounds.

* 1st Place -- 2003 D.C. Hard Rock Café/SoBe “Ultimate Altitude Buzz” Battle of the Band Finals! 
	Beat out over 100+ other bands at the Washington D.C. Hard Rock Café to be crowned regional champions and represent DC/Baltimore in the National Finals.  Additionally, The Speaks now have a guitar permanently displayed as part of Hard Rock Cafe’s DC’s memorabilia '" alongside musical greats like the Rolling Stones, the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix!

* #1 in the United Kingdom 8 weeks straight on FiletopiaLive!
Discovered by DJs in London, England, working for one of the world’s premier independent online radio stations and have been listener favorites ever since '" a sign of their growing global fan-base.  “Life’s a Joke” debuts at #1 and remains on top for 8 straight weeks!

* 2nd Place -- 2003 National Hard Rock Café/SoBe “Ultimate Altitude Buzz” Battle of the Bands!
	The Speaks beat out thousands of other bands in the U.S. and Canada to become one of only 10 bands earning a spot as a national semi-finalist and, as a result of online voting, one of only 3 national finalists.  The Speaks eventually took 2nd place in the nationwide competition.

* XM Radio Airplay '" featured on R>A>D>A>R Report
	The Speaks were hand-picked as one of several unsigned artists to be selected worldwide and featured on XM Radio’s weekly R>A>D>A>R Report (XM 52 '" Radio Unsigned) as one of "the 12 most notable artists in the United States."
