maco marets is known for its style of minimalist tracks with restrained and gentle tones of rap, and its new single "Kariyado" is the first time in four years that maco marets has worked with Riki Azuma (Small Circle of Friends / Studio 75), who has trackmade and produced his debut album "Orang. Pendek" and three other albums in the past, and is a song that is truly a return to the roots for maco marets.

The lyric, sung over a soft piano loop, describes the state of life in flux and the flow of time, as in the song title "Kariyado" = "temporary lodging". The lyric "This is a temporary lodging / Someday I'm going to leave." ...... sings in a mumbled voice, depicting the mood of our somewhat floating days in the post-COVID era, with no place to go. The hook part is sung by singer Buoy, a regular participant in maco marets' works, who adds her voice to the chorus. Her voice adds a delicate touch to the song.

Kariyado

"Wild" is the 8th original album by maco marets, a rapper/poet/composer from Fukuoka Prefecture who now lives in Tokyo.

This album is produced by TOSHIKI HAYASHI (%C), Taisuke Miyata (South Penguin) and STUDIO75, who are well-known track makers from previous albums, as well as TSUBAME and FKD, who both participated in the production for the first time. The album is simple and stoic, with no guest performers, only the artist's own lyrics. The tracks "Good-bye, Angel", "BURN" and "Starfish", which have already been distributed, are pleasant tracks with the poetic sentiment and mellowness typical of maco marets, while making use of each producer's unique flavor.

As the title suggests, the theme of the album is "wild" or "human wildness," and the songs express a roughness not seen in previous works, as well as the weakness hidden behind that roughness, with a delicate approach. The unique rap music of maco marets, filled with sincerity in words, is sure to gently touch the wounds of each listener.

Toshiki Hayashi(%C)

Fukuoka Prefecture-born, Tokyo-based rapper/poet maco marets has released "Starfish," the third single from his new album to be released this winter.

The track was produced by DJ/BEAT MAKER/MUSIC PRODUCER TOSHIKI HAYASHI (%C), who has provided songs to SKRYU, chelmico, and Maiko Suzuki, as well as remixes for Tokimeki Records and CBS, and has provided high-quality music for both major labels and independent labels. He is a regular contributor to maco marets' productions, and they have collaborated on a number of projects.

Of course, the combination of the two is still alive and well on "Starfish". The beat is composed mainly of electric piano and synth sounds, and maco marets' characteristic calm tone of rap is combined to create a mellow song. The lyric "Tsuki ni kakurete, kage oyoide / Boku wa kaeru anata no motowe (I'm going back to you)" is different from the previous single "BURN" in terms of earnestness and romanticism, and is sure to captivate listeners with its gentle and delicate expression.

Starfish (feat. TOSHIKI HAYASHI (%C))

Fukuoka-born, Tokyo-based rapper/poet maco marets has released "BURN", the second single to be distributed in advance from his new album, which is scheduled for release this winter.

The track production for this album was handled by DJ/beatmaker FKD, the leader of the creative collective "VIBEPAK", who in addition to providing music and sound design for domestic and international artists, has also worked with Dry Echoes (Hikaru Tanaka x FKD), FIC (FKD, Shun Ishiwaka, Aaron Choulai), Dewy (erie &FKD).

He and maco marets have collaborated on a single "In my eyes", which was released in March this year as stage music for DYM MESSENGERS, a team in the professional dance league D.LEAGUE, and won the league's "MUSIC OF THE YEAR" award, as well as other projects. The two have collaborated on several songs together.

"BURN" combines FKD's bluesy beats with the raw rap of maco marets, who says he was conscious of his "more blunt style than usual". The lyrics, which question one's own way of life, "In the face of violence / I can only shut up", are not only "cozy" but also powerful enough to renew the artist image of the past.

TSUBAME

maco marets, a rapper/poet born in Fukuoka Prefecture and currently based in Tokyo, celebrated the 8th anniversary of his CD debut this year (2024) with a series of releases centered on collaborations with singers such as Haruka Kumoi (Haruka tomiyuki), RiE MORRiS, Sala, Mashinomi, reina, etc. He has now released his first solo single in about a year, "Good-bye, Angel". 

This single was produced and mixed by DJ/producer TSUBAME, a member of hip-hop group TOKYO HEALTH CLUB who has also produced songs for JUBEE, chelmico, MANON, and others. Warm guitar phrases, an up-tempo beat, and maco marets' languid vocals and poetry reading add up to a fresh approach to the song that combines an ennui mood with a sense of freshness.

The theme of the song, according to the singer, is "the face of an angel that people wear, and confronting its deception." The song's chorus repeats "goodbye, angel," and a long poetry reading part takes place in the latter half of the song.
