Timuçin Şahin

Born in Turkey at 1973, Timucin Sahin first started playing guitar at the age of 16 in Izmir. In 1992 he moved to the Netherlands. Studied jazz guitar at the Hilversum and Amsterdam Conservatories with obtaining 2nd fase masters degree. Studied bachelors classical composition at Amsterdam Conservatory and Manhattan School of Music New York.His continuing desire to learn, led him to also study and deepen his knowledge of other musical traditions. He studied the theory and techniques of South Indian music as part of the course Contemporary Music through Non Western techniques taught by Rafael Reina at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. He has been commissioned by and has composed for respected chamber music ensembles and performers, including the Amsterdam Percussion Group, Jorge Isaac, new contemporary music ensemble and many others. Sahin considers himself fortunate to be simultaneously a composer, performer and improviser. His fascination with a wide variety of musical styles and traditions from, inter alia, jazz to western contemporary music and from African to Indian music, provides him with a rich background from which to deepen, enrich and inspire his own creative processes. In addition to composing and touring with different projects, Sahin leads his own ensembles that perform his music. His latest recently formed band 'Rare Falcons', Timucin Sahin Trio and his contemporary chamber music ensemble 'Occult Ensemble' are his current projects. He is also exploring his solo performances very often at international festivals. In his solo concerts, he also utilizes live-electronics as well as electric, acoustic fretless guitars.
