Lycanthropy

俄罗斯Black/Death Metal乐队，组建于2007年。 Lycanthropy is a black metal band formed in Orel (Russia) in 2007 by Gunner. He soon recruited vocalist Satyrius and a drummer Kostolom. Both stayed until the end of 2010. Then bassist Makar joined. The band released a 9-track demo album «Black Christmas» in 2008 which brought them to the attention of several underground labels. In 2009, along with some local bands, Lycanthropy played their first show. By the spring of 2009 a second session resulted in the «Cerberus Werewolves» demo.All the second part of the year Lycanthropy was constantly tacking part in local fests with such bands as Rajfajh, Spinefish etc. The band seemingly suffered a double hammer blow in late 2009, not only problems with a local police, but also the departure of Kostolom to the army. Kostolom was dismissed from the group in a few weeks after his returning. The seven track «The Right Hand Of Darkness» demo album, was laid down in August 2009. All the instruments were recorded by Gunner. Furious (Definition Sane , Nosce Teipsum, Dusk of Eternity ) appeared as a session vocalist. The use of keyboards expressed the most evil and mystic sides of the band. The sound became much darker and deeper. After a few gigs Makar breaks off from the wolf's range. In March 2010, Gunner and Satyrius recorded a self-titled demo with a session bass-player MR.V. It was later re-released as a split with Nosce Teipsum and Lebensabend. The full-length album «Cerberus Werewolves II» was finished in June 2010. It was planned to do some shows, but due to some circumstances they were cancelled. In September 2010 Satyrius was replaced by Furious. Since that time Lycanthropy is a Russian/Ukrainian collaboration. Later that year, they recorded «Former Glory» EP which was released in a special A5 digisleeve format in France. In early 2011, Lycanthropy signed to Musica Production releasing their new full-length recording, «Instinct For Vengeance». This album dealt with the problem of self-development through the satanic concept. As for music it is more Blackened death metal combining guttural roars and snarling vocals, fast tremolo picking and slow tempos. In late 2011 Lycanthropy participated in the «Black Souls Rebellion» split with Bane, Warfield, The True Endless and Ancient Reign. Soon after that Gunner and Furious were working on the new more experimental material: mix of black and death metal plus deep ambient touches and acoustics. The album was finished in late 2011 and titled «Epitaphium». During 2012 Lycanthropy once again signed with Musica Production in order to release «Epitaphium» with a bonus level on CD - «Abismo De La Eterna» EP, which consists of five extremely fast and brutal black metal songs with a session appearance of Führer (Corpse Lane) on a bass. In the meantime, another split was published, in order to promote the album. This time as a 7 Vinyl through German label Knochensack. One side contains Lycanthropy’s track «V» while the other side contains Serbian Death/Black masters Bane. During summer Gunner and Furious were recording new stuff, which turned to be «Hannibal Ante Portas» album. Eight tracks - eight unmerciful manifests of pain and suffering. Once again Führer was present as a sessional bass-player. With this progressive black metal record with a little influence from death band signed with Unmerciful Death Productions. In the mean time «Mighty and Despair» EP was recorded during late summer. Material was recorded without preparation, in the spur of the moment. Dealing mainly with atmospheric black metal, MCD was released once again on German based Knochensack. During late 2012 Lycanthropy has canceled the contract with the U.S. based Unmerciful Death Productions. «Hannibal Ante Portas» was fully remastered and going to be released on the old friend label Knochensack. Band also recoded 4 brand new songs which turned to be «Dead Silence» EP, released on the U. S. based Metallic Media in early 2013. Lycanthropy had shot the debut video titled «Oppressive Catastasis» for this EP. Band also got some proposition to do a gig in famous Bingo Club (Ukraine), but the offer was canceled by Lycanthropy for some personal reasons. Like always, during summer band started to record an album. Lycanthropy approached to the recording process very meticulously: constantly doing some addition arrangements to the tracks, very carefully designing skeleton of the record, totally recording 17 tracks. Album was titled «Totenkränze», for the first time band used German language for the title. Music for track «Endless Black Forests» was inspired by ancient Bavarian land and composed just after Gunner’s returning from München. The style of the album is very various, combining blackish speed and rage of «Hannibal Ante Portas» album with some sick atmospheric and death metal elements. According to the band «Totenkränze» shows deepness of their compositional skill. Use of different vocals approaches, very specific guitar riffing. All this goes with a furious rhythm section working like a machine. Gunner has also recorded bass lines for this record, to make it more in the Lycanthropy vein. After the recording Lycanthropy got the proposition to do a few gigs as a support to Finntroll, but it was almost impossible for the band. Album was released as 180g Vinyl with a brilliant design by Switzerland based Nocebo Records, CD version was co-released by Black Plague Records/Metallic Media.
