Erna Berger

Erna Berger (19 October 1900 – 14 June 1990), was a prominent German coloratura lyric soprano. She is most famous for her Queen of the Night and her Konstanze. Along with Frida Leider, Elisabeth Rethberg, Meta Seinemeyer, Tiana Lemnitz, Elisabeth Grümmer, Hilde Gueden, Lotte Lehmann, Martha Mödl and Dame Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, she adorned the ranks of the most prominent German sopranos who were active during the decades following World War I. She was highly thought of by the great operatic and orchestral conductors Wilhelm Furtwängler and Arturo Toscanini.
