I'm gonna tell you a little story

Between the San Francisco Bay

And the Hollywood Hills

In the middle of the San Joaquin

A sound was born

In a little carport back in 1963

It all started in a little garage

The more they played

The better they got

It took a little time

And a whole lot of love

'Cause a new sound was coming out

Ah yes it was

Started doing dances every Saturday night

Worked real hard just to get just right

Rock'n'roll music underneath the lights

Just doing what they loved to do

Guys were on the road

Was a 1/8 of a man

Wasn't doing much of nothing

When my telephone rang

I was asked

If I wanted to play in the band

I quit school packed up everything I had

We made a living playing one nightstands

Were the 40 year brotherhood

After all these years back together again

Doing what we love to do

I went and

Joined a rock'n'roll band

At the ripe old age of 17

At the wink of an eye I was making

More money with Bill Sluggo

Dickie Lee and me

They called me Skinny right

From the start

They taught me things

That only come from the heart

As close as family could ever be Wild Bill

Playing one nightstands
