46 Followers出生：1973/ 紐奧爾良 Nicholas Payton也是新世紀的接班人，他的父親Walter Payton是一位頂尖的貝斯手，母親是一位鋼琴音樂家。由於生長在音樂家庭，5歲時便開始學小喇叭了，在他9歲的時候便已經有機會與樂團演出了。12歲時受到 Wynton Marsalis（Marsalis家庭是紐奧爾良的同鄉）的看重，還意外的得到得到 Ellia Marsalis的教授音樂的機會。 Nicholas Payton畢業於New Orleans Center for Creative Arts（紐奧爾良的藝術學院），他也是鋼琴手Ellis Marsalis的學生。1992年時與鋼琴手Marcus Roberts做巡迴演出，他與鼓手Elvin Jones（老前輩）也曾在林肯中心演出過。 Nicholas Payton自己表示在眾多音樂大師之中最喜愛的有 Louis Armstrong（也是紐奧爾良的同鄉）以及Clifford Brown。
