Rebecca St. James,原名Rebecca Jean Smallbone ，1977年7月26日出生于澳大利亚的Sydney,是David和Helen Smallbone之女。Smallbone一共7个孩子，5个男孩2个女孩，Rebecca是家里的长女。 Rebecca的音乐事业开始于1990年，那时她13岁，已经成为Christian学校合唱队的领唱，并开始为Christian杰出艺人Carman的澳洲巡演暖场，接着被Rebecca父亲的唱片公司所收入旗下，从此成为正式歌手。同年，她录制了自己的第一张作品“Refresh My Heart”。1991年Rebecca移居美国，因为她换了新的唱片公司ForeFront Records！从那时Rebecca改自己的名字为Rebecca St. James，想法来自于她的祖母，那是祖母少女时期的名字！ 1999年对于Rebecca是个相当幸运的一年，因为她获得了葛莱美“最佳基督乐专辑”的殊荣！也成为澳洲历史在第18个获得该奖项的歌手！
