西普林．卡萨利斯是出生于法国马塞的钢琴家、作曲家。他是已故被誉为“李斯特在世”的钢琴大师席弗拉的高徒。1974年他获得了席弗拉国际钢琴比赛的第一名，他是1972年比利时伊利莎白女皇国际钢琴比赛的唯一的西欧国家获奖者。 1966年他作为“音乐国王”青年钢琴比赛的获奖者，在法国巴黎举办了第一场钢琴独奏音乐会。他曾与许多世界最知名的乐团和指挥合作，如：柏林爱乐乐团、费城交响乐团、克里夫兰管弦乐团、伦敦爱乐乐团等。著名指挥如：奥曼迪、多纳尼、伯恩斯坦、卡尔-马祖尔等。他还担任华沙肖邦国际钢琴比赛、李斯特国际钢琴比赛等国际大赛的评委。1997年卡萨利斯被联合国教科文组织授予“和平艺术家”的称号。法国文化部为表彰他对音乐的杰出贡献，于2000年专门给他颁发了官方的最高獎——“艺术与文化骑士勋章”。
