김우진 미니 3집 [I LIKE THE WAY]


솔로 아티스트로서 새로운 시작을 알리는 김우진은 이번 앨범을 통해 스스로의 목소리를 이야기로 푸는 방법을 고민했다. 누구나 그렇듯 힘든 시간을 겪으면서 자신에 대한 깊은 통찰과 반성, 또 앞으로 본인이 가야할 길에 대한 확신과 희망을 동시에 경험하며, 좋은 아티스트로 성장하기 위해 더욱 음악적으로 단단해져야 한다고 다짐했다.

이번 미니 3집 [I LIKE THE WAY]는 김우진의 그러한 생각을 담은 첫번째 이야기다. 김우진은 앨범의 곡 선정부터 무드 구성, 작사에도 적극적으로 참여하여, 변화된 자신의 이야기를 당당하고 진솔하게 풀어나가고자 한다.

타이틀 곡 ‘I Like The Way’를 포함, 총 5곡이 수록된 앨범에는 팝, 알앤비, 아프로비트, 발라드 등 다양한 장르적 스펙트럼을 선보이며 음악을 통해 느낄 수 있는 즐거움과 마음의 위로를 마음껏 표현하고자 했다. 어려운 시기를 걷고 있는 또 다른 누군가가 김우진의 음악을 통해 행복해지고 마음의 위로를 받을 수 있다면.. 본인 역시 음악을 통해 그랬던 것처럼.


01 I Like The Way
그루비한 베이스라인, 펑키한 기타 사운드와 함께 김우진의 매력적인 보컬 멜로디가 머릿속에 맴도는 팝 댄스곡이다. 삐뚤어진 표현과 말투로 상처를 주는 사람이지만 그런 모습마저도 사랑하는 모습이 마냥 쿨해 보이지는 않는다.

02 Pretty Mess
강렬한 테마를 표현하는 플럭 사운드와 신스 베이스가 유려한 멜로디가 조화를 이루는 리드미컬한 알앤비 팝곡으로, 힘들고 복잡한 상황에서도 눈치보지 않고 내 모습 그대로 나답게 당당하게 걸어가겠다는 메시지를 담았다.

03 What U Say
세계적으로 많은 사랑받고 있는 아프로비트 사운드와 팝의 조화로 내적댄스를 불러 일으키는 댄스 곡이다. 변주되는 다채로운 편곡과 주고 받는 형태의 후렴구 멜로디가 색다른 매력을 배가하며, 사랑에 빠져 상대방과 줄다리기 하는듯 한 설레는 마음을 가사에 담았다.

04 Hold
김우진의 이야기에 오롯이 집중할 수 있도록 섬세하게 절제된 피아노에 덤덤하면서도 호소력 짙은 목소리로 디테일한 감정을 담아낸 팝발라드 곡으로, H.O.T.의 강타가 김우진을 위해 프로듀싱하였다. 가장 절망적인 순간에도 버틸 수 있는 힘은 과연 어디에서 오는지에 대한 메시지를 담았다.

05 To. My Friend
어쿠스틱 기타 사운드와 아련한 멜로디가 조화된 팝 알앤비 장르의 곡으로, 어린 시절 가장 친했던 친구를 추억하며 그리워 하는 김우진의 마음을 가사에 담았다.

Bounce is a word used to describe reaction from a ball when it hits the ground. It could also mean hearts racing.
Kim Woojin’s 2nd mini album is on the continuum from his first album.
While the first album captures diﬀerent emotions, hardships and small hope as a minor,
the second album embodies coming of age to individuality, confidence, positive energy and love with its music. It’s the story of a beautiful adulthood, coming into the most beautiful moment in life.

It sings of becoming a fully grown adult by overcoming he anxiety, conflict and frustration of the minor.

With the punk rock band sound and colorful guitars, Kim Woojin’s powerful vocal style that’s never been seen in previous albums bring a diﬀerent character.

02Song of Icarus
Inspired by Icarus from Greek mythology, this track sings of moving forward towards own dreams
- hopeful. Starting with a minimalistic sound as the beat adds on to make it fuller, it feels as if taking oﬀ the ground and flying with wings on the back.
03Telepathy
A strange feeling for someone else for the first time, and the telepathic sensation of knowing that there’s a connection. This song is about the moment of falling in love for the first time. There’s a fresh and heart-fluttering feeling across the whole song.
04Drive Away
‘Drive Away’ is about going wherever the heart wants, to get away from the complications and worries from the everyday life. A soothing, whispering vocal singing a beautiful melody brings the feeling of a ticklish breeze on the face while driving away - happiness itself.
05Tryin’
We try to forget the feeling we have for the person we love, but it somehow never goes away. This song sings about the irony of it. The playful rhythm with a repeating hook, singing lyrics of complicated feelings creates a contrasting vibe that is special.
06Say Something To Me
This track closes the 2nd mini album ’The moment : Bounce’. It is about the most honest story from the deep, emphasizing the acoustic guitar with Woojin’s dreamy, whispering voice.
