His trademark playing combining rhythm and solo guitar, has shaped the sound of countless soul masters, from his own Mar-Keys and Booker T. & The MGs to Otis Redding and Carla Thomas. Guitarist Lowman Pauling form the 5 Royales, a vocal group that started recording during the early 1950s, has been his major influence.
