Amon Amarth

1988年組建，當時命名爲Scum，樂隊原來的風格是Grindcore（碾核）。當Johan Hegg加入後，風格轉向了Melodic Death Metal（旋律死亡金屬）。 　1992年，樂隊更名爲Amon Amarth。Amon Amarth取自英國作家托爾金的小說《指環王》，Amon Amarth在小說中是指一個特定的地點，即位於中土世界的末日山。 　　 1993年樂隊發行了第一張Demo《Thor Arise》。 　　 1994年樂隊發行了第二張Demo《The Arrival of the Fimbul Winter》，限量1000張，在不到12個小時內銷售一空。 　　 2張Demo後，樂隊終於簽約新加坡著名極端金屬公司Pulverised Records，並於1996年發行了首張MCD《Sorrow Throughout the Nine Worlds》，賣出6000張。 　　 之後樂隊簽約老牌死亡金屬公司Metal Blade Records，並於1998年發行了首張大碟《Once Sent from the Golden Hall》，大受歡迎。從此名揚世界！
