1972年，南美的一支橄榄球队坐飞机前往智利参加比赛。途中，他们所坐的飞机在安第斯山脉上空遇难，坠毁在半山腰上，其中有部分球员生还了下来。他们在山中做一切能做的事，也尝试着做一些不可能做到的事，以求能活着走出安第斯山。他们满心希望的等待着救援的队伍能早日找到他们，带他们离开这天寒地冻的地方，但救援队伍却迟迟没有出现。日子一天一天的过去了，在海拔如此高的地方，天气又冷，又没有什么可以赖以维生的食物。渐渐的，有人坚持不住了，他们所带的食物也都消耗掉了。无奈之下，他们只能依靠分食死尸来维生。而救援的队伍在搜寻幸存者的过程中遇到了好几次雪崩，营救工作一度中断过。好在，他们一天也没有失去对外界救援的希望。凭着对家人的牵挂和对上帝的无限忠诚，在飞机坠毁五十多天以后，天气渐渐转暖，营救工作开始变得顺利起来，救援队终于找到了他们，还有十六个人终于活着走出了安第斯山脉，再一次与家人团聚在了一起。
