Punch Records has undertaken the mission of scouring the postindustrial music arena for unique and eclectic musical phenomena. This dedicated search has turned up some fresh and vital music. Composed by the well-established artists Coph Nia and Mindspawn Erotomechaniks is a dark ambient narrative of epic proportions. Erotomechaniks transports the listener into a dark shadowy world of machines, mind and flesh. Merging the concepts of mechanics, consciousness, and humanity into a hybridized whole Coph Nia and Mindspawn have striven to create a musical journey that explores a new world where machines are infused with life and feelings. To go back or withdraw seems futile and counter intuitive. You feel the descent drawing you ever deeper into the depths of the master machine but you cannot find the strength or will to resist. You find yourself seeking the depths like some sickened voyeur seeking to watch your own slow demise.
As the music advances one long song after another you begin to feel the mundane, cold mechanics reaching beyond your mind into your very soul. Behind the bleak industrial sounds you begin to detect a sermon. The machine is not but metal, steam, oil, and fire. In its great unification of principles, equations, and mechanics, it has achieved a divine state. The lumbering behemoth speaks to you of paradise and misery, of love and death, of hope and betrayal. The inhuman machine transcends your humanity capturing you now in your entirety. The voyage continues like a leaf rolling downstream across icy waters. The leaf never sinks to the bottom but journeys ever further away into the unknown.
Erotomechaniks is a splendid dark ambient album that illustrates what the genre is capable of when manipulated by able and insightful artists. The album is amazingly engaging and achieves amazing results with very subtle utilization of sounds and frequencies. Never does the music overpower the listener or suffocate the senses rather the listener is gently seduced into following the evolving musical tapestry as it unfolds through numerous extended songs. Erotomechaniks is like an epic soundtrack that remains forever orphaned. The music of Erotomechaniks would challenge even the brightest of filmmakers to create a visual accompaniment that could do the music justice.
