Extreme樂隊應該算是80年代末期所涌現的一大批重金屬樂隊中最出色的一支了。其實，他們的風格不應僅僅被侷限於重金屬，Rap, Folk, Jazz, Blues等都有涉獵，他們的每張專輯都是高水準之作，特別是樂隊吉他手 Nuno Bettencourt 出色的表現，他是樂隊的核心人物，樂隊的專輯絕大多數都是他獨立製作完成的。他的演奏繼承了 Eddie Van Halen 華麗、多變的風格。Nuno Bettencout和他帶領的 Extreme樂隊，的確是重金屬中的“紳士”，乾淨和跳躍，是 Nuno Bettencout 的最大特點和優點。就音樂來說，Extreme 是乾乾淨淨，心平氣和的，以吉他爲主，通過旋律和技巧來表現，已經脫離了單純的憤怒宣泄。在重金屬音樂極爲不景氣的1995年，Extreme 仍然我行我素，在 1995 年推出了一張更爲自我的專輯《Waiting for the Punchline》，一反前幾張專輯的雄心勃勃與精製，新專輯是本着反樸歸真的精神完成的，甚至製作時也未作任何 EQ 和 Reverb 混音處理，此時樂隊的鼓手已換爲 Mike Mangini。
