Side A - W.I.N.E “Writing Is Never Easy” but the labour of love has once again beared fruit. Once again Erefaan delivers an 80’s Synth Pop track with his usual touch of Disco, but a definite modern context is evident. Side B - Vultures Another 90’s House workout from Erefaan adding to his already brilliant catalogue. This time Erefaan takes a more bass centric approach. A must have track for those dance floors feeling the love. Side A - Sampled Love The lead single of this E.P. is reminiscent of that Jersey House sound with classic M1 sounds laced over it. Just close your eyes and be magically whipped back to the 90’s with this bad boy. Side B - The Monet Cliche A Deep Tech House track aimed at the dance floor with a dated controversial anti establishment message sampled throughout. Strong drum lines keep you locked in with a Minimal sounding synth meshing it all together. Erefaan Pearce - The Disco Ball EP An invaluable contributor to the H&T catalogue, the Disco Ball EP is unbelievably over ten years old and comes from the genius hands and mind of New Disco pioneer Erefaan Pearce. Of the EP Erefaan says it’s an “antithesis of 80’s synth pop”, all the while remaining true to the analogue sound and groove of this era. A love/hate relationship with the music of the 80’s shines through on side A’s ‘Discotheque’, where house music’s roots were being grown in the 4/4 style of repetitive beats and synth leads, this record has had a magnetic force on the dance floors of South Africa since its completion in 2002. Side B is even older, having seen the light of day as long ago as 2001, and sticking to the theme of paying homage to the analogue synthesizer, ‘Flavour’ is the result of a music producer to be spending a fair chunk of the 80’s and early 90’s drawing musical inspiration from the 8-bit tracks produced for that era’s most successful video games.

Erefaan Pearce – Sweet Sounds EP True to the producer’s take on the 80’s synth movement, side A gives us a more mature take on the sound of that era on ‘My Rise and Fall’. Produced with the typically heavy gated snare drum, what was soul in that time filters through this synth-heavy late-night ballad. At the time of production Tiefschwarz was on heavy rotation on the producer’s play list, and it comes through loud and clear with nasty tech-style leads, shimmering bells and pads that would take any man and his dog on a journey right through to the end of the night. Side B is an obvious tip-of-the-hat to all those who spent the earliest part of this decade jamming to the sounds of Paper, Seasons and the other countless labels that kept us all awake until way past bedtime. Originally produced as an exclusive for a local DJ compilation, ‘Revelations’ is just that. More layers than a black forest cake, it’s a true outing in synthesis and an ode to those who keep the dance floor cooking long after the fat lady has sung her swan song.

Sweet Sound - Single

Erefaan Pearce – Sensuality EP The first release in the catalogue from regular contributor and SA house music stalwart Erefaan Pearce, in the Sensuality EP we have a classic example of music that was produced way ahead of its time. Side A gives us the Analogue Mix of ‘Disco Biscuits’, a term Erefaan found humorous and understandable at the time of naming. Being one step ahead of his counterparts in the industry Erefaan had a box full of what would years later be termed ‘new disco’ and was a pioneer of this sound on South African shores hugely popularized by the likes of Metro Area and Tiga. This 2002 synth disco cut lends a strong ear to the sounds of these influences and would still sound modern in a set a decade later. Side B and ‘I Just Wanna Love You’ gives us a slightly deeper, slightly nastier variant on the same sound, this time with our producer introducing us to his multi-band vocal abilities.
