A whistler on the subway

Remind me that tune

I heard the first time

Around that time I fell in love with you

A picture in the paper

Of buildings in that town

Where we spend our heathen honeymoon

And tears come running down

Signalling what I have been denying for too long

I have not and I will never move on

The books of the 1920s

Of lovers torn by war

Engages moves and touches me

Telling me I openly

Never was I drafted

I chose that for myself

As you went on to find love

With many other men

And it is only now that I begin to understand

What I carelessly let slip out of my hand

I thoguht I could find another you

But there is only one
