Down I Go
英国 PUNK band If you like something a bit disorienting and disconcerting, but that still encourages you to spaz out, seek out London radicalists Down I Go. shels*, architects of one of our favourite records of this year ('Plains of the Purple Buffalo'), have had the good sense to release their latest EP through their Shelsmusic label on November 7. Since 2005, they have purveyed a brand of noisy, shouty rock fed through a combine harvester and spat out in bewildering chunks : staccato tantrums, squealing riffs and avant-garde splashes; a British Fantomas living off chip fat and bitter. They have already created their own genre, 'disastercore' and released a suite of pleasingly horrible tunes named after notorious tyrants. There is obviously a rich vein of black humour running through the songs, but the results sound full of sinister purpose. This is a band willing to try anything, while maintaining a discipline and snappiness that lends an urgency to their uneasy listening. Word has it that the 'Gods' EP will be the final recorded output of Down I Go. Perhaps, through your inevitable patronage and some sustained sycophancy we can save them from this untimely demise.
