Iron Mic LEGEND

The IRON MIC LEGEND compilation album. Over the years there have been over ten thousand competitors at the IRON MIC. Some of the most well known and famous rappers have joined the battle, but only a select few have won the coveted title. For me (SHOWTYME) all the competitors are Champions in my heart. They are part of a special tradition and exclusive community that paved the way for rap culture in China. They are all undisputed LEGENDS.

So who is your all time favorite Iron Mic competitor? Who do you want to hear on an IRON MIC LEGEND compilation; BlaKK Bubble (王凡), BreakD (No Fear Family), Bizzy B, 徐真真2REAL, BigDog王可, Vyan, 茶米DAVI, GNS耀耀, (義勝合) BeCareful, LiangLang or KIGGA?

Executive produced by Showtyme, all songs on the compilation are produced by Scott “CHOPS” Jung, a pioneering music maker whose multi-instrument style helped his group Mountain Brothers become the first Chinese rap group signed to a major label. His productions list many of hip-hop’s biggest and most respected artists (Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Raekwon, Talib Kweli, E-40, Ice Cube, Snoop, Bun B, Key Glock, YFN Lucci and the Game to name a few).

Iron Mic 戰士

The IRON MIC WARRIOR compilation album, simply put, my life’s work in music. Executive produced by yours truly, SHOWTYME, I was able to pair the greatest Chinese American Hip Hop producer—Scott “Chops” Jung—with the all-time most talented, innovative and pioneering Chinese IRON MIC rappers.

Inspired by Bruce Lee’s script for the series Warrior, a HBO Max martial arts crime drama that is executive produced by Bruce’s daughter, Shannon Lee, this compilation includes original remixes of songs that have been featured on previous Warrior episodes, as well as exclusive previews of music that will be featured on Season 3 of Warrior.

The album blurs the line between the action-packed life in San Francisco’s Chinatown in the 1880’s and the tumultuous twists and turns of contemporary life. The album explores some of the most controversial topics that only Hip Hop has the courage and capacity to address; greed, money, crime, loyalty, brotherhood, ethnic tensions, sinophobia, violence and freedom.

The rappers on this compilation range the gamut of legendary OG’s like Beijing’s Young Kin to relentlessly up-and-coming artists like Qinghai’s GNS耀耀. Over two dozen rappers from across China and abroad including C.Jam, Lil Mizy, dropb, Becareful, Fei, School Girl Niu Niu, Kigga, PACT and DDG to name a few. All of these MCs represent the spirit of Bruce Lee in Chinese rap. They are the truest Warriors that I know in the world of Chinese Hip Hop, and this is by far the greatest story ever told via the art form and culture that I brought to China over two decades ago.

“Showtyme” is a Detroiter in self exile, who has made China his home for over a quarter of a century. He is one of the undisputed pioneers and first promoters of Hip Hop and Rap culture in China.
