Tawanna Shaunte

A mixture of organic beats, soul and high energy is what you get when you witness Tawanna Shaunte performing. Her soothing velvety voice takes you to beautiful spaces in your mind while giving the body goose bumps. She hails from Mississippi, a state with a sordid history of struggle and perseverance, which enhances her ability to interpret and present music in a profound way. She began singing at an early age though her music career began in her late twenties with a band called "Eclectik Soul" that awarded her the opportunity to complete and sell two successful international recorded albums. She received the attention of fellow native Mississippian & jazz legend Cassandra Wilson and welcomed her into the Ojah Media Group. One can hear Tawanna Shaunte’s unique blend of jazz, blues, soul, and funk throughout her work. Tawanna Shaunte has performed in the best jazz rooms in the country, including the Blue Note, B.B.King Club, St. Nicks Pub, and the Yellow Scarf, just to name a few. She released her new EP titled "Freedom Agent" on February 27, 2015, which takes one on a compelling journey to feel and witness storytelling in the most provocative and honest expression. Tawanna shared in an interview, “I want people to experience this album and truly listen to the message of hope and love that inspires all people to channel the Freedom Agent within, and to be better global citizens."
