The Baker Brothers

Bournemouth-based Chris Pedley met up with Brothers Dan and Rich at a dodgy Function gig, back in darkest 1990-something. The trio then went on to write and perform their unique style of dirty Funk. The Band released three 7-inch singles and their first album, "Ten Paces" on Bournemouth label, ARSE Records, before starting their own label, PEDDLER Records in 2004. To date they have recorded six albums and a full-length live DVD. They have since toured Japan six times and have played at a wide range of venues across the UK and Europe. The Band consists of the following full and part-time members:- Chris Pedley- Bass, Guitar and Vocals On stage Chris plays the bass, guitar and vocals. He carries most of the production duties in the studio and enjoys eating brownies at home. When not involved in music, Chris can be found on the allotment with crap underneath his fingernails, tutting at Blackfly and Potato-blight. Chris, a Bass enthusiast, likes to DJ for small family gatherings and has occasionally been known to shave. Rich Baker - Drums and Vocals Rich Baker is the sensible, unflappable, left-handed member of the band. A super-fit marathon-runner, Rich is also a compulsive obsessive cleaner who, when not laying down the groove for the Baker Brothers, enjoys nothing more than cleaning his house or yours if you are lucky enough to have him visit. Rich will eat anything put in front of him, from a motorway services Scotch egg to Japanese Raw chicken. His quick wit ranks him alongside the worst of the 'Butlins Redcoats'. Paul Young - Tenor Saxophone Paul is the Baker Brothers' secret weapon of Jazz destuction. Paul's key role is that of band mediator. the Baker Brothers rely on Paul to steer conversation towards more lofty and weighty topics, such as football, world history and politics, environmental sciences and issues 33-65 of 'Nuts' magazine. Paul is also a keen swimmer and duck expert, liking nothing more than mixing these two pursuits when on tour with the band. Barney Muller - Guitar Barney, an awesome guitarist and musician, was named after the big purple cuddly dinosaur who so expertly entertains the children of America. Barney's background could not be further from his current profession; He comes from a long line of Bavarian yoghurt manufacturers and still plays the Alphorn on Bavarian National holidays. Geoff Lai - Guitar On stage, Geoff also plays guitar, bass and sings. Geoff is the newest addition to the band and, along with Barney, has stepped into the sizeable shoes left behind by the awesome Dan Baker. Geoff, brought up in Hong Kong, was the city's Rubick's cube champion in the years 1985-87 and enjoys computer programming and driving his Sinclair C-5. Vanessa Freeman - Vocals The band's official kickboxer, Vanessa keeps all of the boys in line. Vanessa is in constant demand as a singer all over the World and will only agree to perform and tour with the band if they behave like little children. Vanessa loves facts and trivia, self-help cds and is also a keen chef, having only recently perfected her signature dish, "Jamaican Jerk Doner kebab with Plantains". Paul Jordanous - Trumpet Paul, a keep-fit enthusiast and footballer, is also quite keen on the trumpet. Paul has been playing with the band for a number of years, both as a trumpet-player, keyboard-player and as expressive dancer. Paul is well-respected throughout the music industry as a nutritionist, most recently having published a book entitled "7 steps to healthy, heavenly jazz cuisine". Matt McNaughton - Alto and Baritone Saxophones Matt plays Alto and Baritone saxophones within the band and also provides occasional vocals. Matt is famous for never being seen in the same clothes more than once, which accords with his excellent standards of crispness and cleanliness. Matt loathes puerile behaviour, looking down at those who find "farting" amusing. Matt is also a lifelong teetotaller with an excellent dictum: "Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise". Bill Mudge - Keyboards Bill, a highly respected Organist, enjoys travelling around the country from Parish to Parish, playing for evensong and Mass wherever possible.
