Graham Oppenheimer

Graham Oppenheimer is one of the UK's foremost and most respected violists. He studied with Atar Arad at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester and was his Graduate Assistant at the Eastman School of Music. Other mentors were Thomas Riebl at Salzburg Mozarteum and Alberto Lysy at the International Menuhin Music Academy. He was invited to join the English Chamber Orchestra whilst still a student and went on to become a founder member and principal viola of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe under Claudio Abbado. As a soloist he has performed with orchestras including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Jerusalem Symphony and Lapeenranta Symphony Orchestra in Finland. As a leading chamber musician Graham Oppenheimer has appeared with such artists as Yehudi Menuhin, Paul Tortellier, Murray Perahia, Imogen Cooper, Nicholas Daniel and Jack Brymer. He has also appeared as guest violist with some of the world’s leading quartets, including Vermeer, Lindsay, Pacifica, Vogler, Vanbrugh, Carducci and Petersen, and with piano trios including the Cropper/Welsh/Roscoe, Hochelaga and Busch Ensemble. He was a founder member of the international Schidlof Quartet with whom he recorded CDs of Shostakovich, Dvorak and Schumann. Further critically acclaimed recordings include the Debussy Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp with Sir James Galway. He has also broadcast on radio throughout the world from the BBC in the UK to the ABC in Australia.
