來自密蘇里州聖路易市的Story of the Year是一隊很勤力的樂隊，經過多年努力以及多次隊員的變動，雖然於聖路易經常有演出的機會，但仍然未能受到廣泛注視，他們不斷地創作、不斷地演出，不斷印刷他們自己的Demo CD，直至偶然其中一張Demo CD於02年落在樂隊Goldfinger的吉他手John Feldmann手中，並轉交廠牌Maverick，Feldmann亦請他們到南加州跟Goldfinger 一同演出，他們亦由當時開始展開了他們的音樂旅程，這張In The Wake Of Determination是他們的首張正式發行專輯。
