Abyss

California-based solo artist, Pastel Ghost, releases new electro-pop dance album ABYSS on new Chicago-based outfit, 80s Ladies Records. Oakland-native Vivian Moon, better known under moniker Pastel Ghost, mixes pulsing synths and electrifying dance beats on her upcoming release, set to drop March 10th 2015. According to Moon, the album’s theme is centered around emotions of darkness and loneliness. ABYSS was written, produced and recorded solely by Pastel Ghost, capturing the essence of her ethereal vocals and immersive sounds. Drawing inspiration from an eclectic mix, ranging from Crystal Castles and My Bloody Valentine to the 80s post-punk new wave bands like New Order and The Cure, ABYSS is sure to be an impressive debut full-length album. First single “Dark Beach,” released in the summer of 2013, threw Pastel Ghost’s career into full throttle, garnering upwards of 21,000 plays on SoundCloud. The drop of her second debut EP Shadows took place in May of 2014 and later that year signed with 80’s Ladies Records. Soon after in November 2014, Pastel Ghost took off on her first Northwest tour. Moon has expressed how she wants each of her songs to have a distinct visual feeling either by title, lyrically, or musically which is why she created her own genre dubbed “Dreamrave.” Iheartcomicx featured her as ‘Crush Of The Week’ exclaiming, “Hailing from Oakland and making music that sounds like an anime dream, PASTEL GHOST are masterful at combining a whole host of influences to create a landscape all their own. There are easily comparisons made to Crystal Castles, 80’s synth pop, Grimes and Fischer Spooner, but what I like most about them is that despite being influenced by others, they are still very much their own.”
